Does anybody know anything about the Martin Freres instruments? When were they made? I've seen a few and they usually look decent. Are they sought after for any particular reason? Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

They were sold some years ago by supply houses like Bruno or Harris Teller for dealers who did not have access to major lines. They are OK, but nothing to write home about and no collector's value, as far as I know. They make great lamps.

Just for the heck of it, would you rather see one of the Martin Frs instruments come in for work or a Palatino? I haven't seen any Palatino winds come in, but I'm guessing they're made alongside or not too far away from FirstAct, Selmer's Preludes, etc.
Inavailability of parts aside, comments on quality of design, quality of materials, fit & finish, tuning, etc of the new "disposables" (yeah, like when the trill corks fall off a month after purchase and the parents are $15 further into a FirstAct they say "oh well, I planned on this being a waste of time and money anyways") vs the Martin Frs et al of old?
