I have two seperate customers who own Getzen Eterna 700 trumpets. Both use the Protech brand leather valve protector (velcro fastener). Both instruments have plating damage under the protector. One is much worse than the other but both have plating damage as well as pitting.
I haven't had damage with other brands, and would appreciate knowing if anyone else has run into this problem. I have notified Protech of the problem but have yet to hear from them.
Any feedback will be appreciated.
Thankx,
Bob

I haven't had experience with the Protech guards, but have seen plating damage from time to time with various valve guards. I always thought it was more related to moisture that got trapped under the guard, but that's just speculation.
